Carolina Bertsch (Project Primary Researcher)
Brief Biography:
Carolina is a biologist with a Master's in Biological Sciences
(2007) from the Simon Bolivar University, Venezuela. During the Master's thesis
she studied the habitat use trough radio-telemetry and feeding ecology of
another endangered Cracid in the Venezuelan Llanos, the Yellow-knobbed Curassow
(Crax daubentoni). Between 2007-2012 she worked at the Wildlife
Conservation Society (WCS) as Caura River Conservation Program General
Coordinator and Researcher, coordinating several wildlife management and
community-based conservation projects (including fishes, mammals, reptiles and
Cracid species) in southern Venezuela. Since 2006 she is the Regional
Coordinator of the former Cracid Specialist Group -IUCN-SSC/WPA (now the Cracid
Group of the Galliformes Specialist Group-IUCN/SSC) for Venezuela, Caribe and
the Guianas. Currently she is coordinating the project “Use and
conservation of cinegetic semi-terrestrial birds (Cracidae and Tinamidae) in
the Piagaçu Purus Sustainable Development Reserve”, within the Wildlife Use and Management Program (PROMUF) of the Piagaçu
Institute.
